I am aware of the terrible gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ of my country malawi. The analysis above is just very good and I can say pictorial to the actual view of what is on the ground.
In my country, it is very hard for some one to rise from a poor home to a ‘comfortable’ life within a short span of time. I have met a lot of graduate friends, some of whom graduated from universty long before our class but others among them are still struggling to earn a ‘comfortable’ life.
I should say politics in our country in a democratic manner has a big bearing on all this.
Development , I think, here is not largely built on investing in people which I’m sure should have been.
As of today, a university graduate secondary school teacher getsabout 228USD per month and this stimulates reluctance in people to work hard particulary in the civil service.
Our economy is growing at a faster rate this time (BBC radio)due to the new political policies by the incumbent state president-economist Dr. wa mutharika, but I hope if this goes on for alittle longer, wages gat changed in the civil service, staff will be well motivated and dedicated hence to development of the country as a whole.
Corruption in africa may be there may be due to lack of such commitment to work and people opt for shorter paths of getting much ‘undeserved’ money or wealth.
When I was working int he civil service, colleagues could even miss days of duty doing their own businesse to top up their monthly income, on the other hand, they are getting paid on month ends by gvt for a ’supposedly’ work done.
If attitude in the political circles had changed from hatred to a developmental mode, rival parties could ‘ve supported development of a one malawi….
Not: malawi goes for general elections on may 19th this month…
