Canada’s peacekeeping mission to Mali: There is more to it than meets the eye

Canada will soon be sending some 200 Canadian armed forces personnel and up to 6 helicopters to join the United Nations peacekeeping force in Mali. A country that is beleaguered from within and without, the situation is complex and it is not at all clear that ramping up foreign intervention using the UN model will bring justice or lasting peace. Amandla’s Gwen Schulman talks to Ameth Lô of the Group for Research and Initiative for the Liberation of Africa on the situation in Mali and what is underlying Canada’s growing involvement there.
